Part of our goal in creating a better quality of life for residents in West Hants is helping people to become physically active, to build social skills, and to help to boost self-esteem and confidence.

Healthy Active Aging Fund 2020 2021

We are very excited to announce the second year of the Healthy Active Aging Fund in partnership with NS Communities, Culture & Heritage which are meant to increase physical activity levels for older adults (45+) in their community.

Any non-profit group or organization targeting adults 45+ years who reside in West Hants Regional Municipality can apply. Projects must be focused on phylical activity, help establish new habits that make regular movement part of the participants ongoing daily lives and help reduce barriers to physical activity such as transportation, cost and knowledge.  

There are two rounds of funding with deadlines to submit August 14 for Round 1, and, for round 2, November 13.

Kidsport

KidSport is a national children's program that helps kids overcome the financial barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport.

Managed and operated by Sport Nova Scotia since 1994, KidSport Nova Scotia has assisted over 24,000 children totalling over $5.5 Million and provides funding of up to $300/year/child for sport registration and/or equipment. West Hants Parks & Recreation is proud to partner with KidSport Nova Scotia to administer the program.

Our Community Development Department is proud to partner with the Kings Hants Chapter to administer the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program which helps financially disadvantaged children get involved in organized sport and recreation by covering the costs of registration.
