The Municipality of the District of West Hants now offers citizens the ability to use pre-authorized payments as a means of paying their annual tax and/or quarterly water bills.
We are pleased to offer you two payment options for taxes and one for water utility payments:
Tax Payments Options
This program allows the customer to pay their taxes on the 28th of September each year by signing an agreement to withdraw the actual amount of the annual bill. The tax account must be current prior to selecting this option.
This program can serve as a substitute for customers who currently pay their taxes via post-dated cheques.
Complete the Pre-Authorized Payment Enrollment Form indicating the monthly withdrawal amount and the month you would like your payments to begin. Your account will be debited on the 28th of each month. You will continue to receive your regular billings and reminder notices to maintain your records.
Interest will be charged on outstanding balances as normally applicable.
The full amount of the water bill will be debited from your bank account two (2) business days before the due date.
To change your banking information, please complete a new enrollment form at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to your next monthly payment.
If you wish to cancel your pre-authorized payments and/or if you sell your property, we require notice of cancellation in writing within thirty (30) calendar days prior to the next scheduled payment. Payment may not be eligible for return after the closing date.
Once you begin the pre-authorized payment program, it will automatically continue unless you contact the Municipality of the District of West Hants with a written request for cancellation.
It is important that all tax payers on Pre-Authorized Payment(PAP), examine their annual bill for outstanding balances. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to ensure their tax account remains current. Interest will be charged on outstanding balances as applicable.
To apply for the pre-authorized payment program return the completed application form at least thirty (30) calendar days before the first withdrawal as stated on the enrollment form.
If your PAP returns non-sufficient funds, or otherwise, a fee of $25.00 is applied to your account. Also, under the Canadian Payment Association regulations two NSF automatic debits and you are removed from the program.
