The West Hants Regional Municipality is a growing and vibrant community located just 30 minutes from the Provincial centre, and the Valley, and we are seeking an experienced professional for the position of Coordinator, Community Recreation.

This full-time position is responsible for the ongoing planning, development, facilitation, and evaluation of, where required, sport and recreation programs for implementation in the community.
Typical work week is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday with some evening work required. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible work schedule as required.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Recreation or related field
• Minimum of 3 years’ related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities, together with the ability to provide clear direction to supervised employees and to effectively supervise and co-ordinate the work of a group of employees.
• Ability to work from written or oral instructions.
• Ability to be courteous and tactful in a variety of demanding and difficult situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to positively manage social media, develop communication pieces using graphic design programs and distribute information in a variety of ways.
• Ability to plan, promote, organize, and successfully execute active-living-based community events.
• Attention to detail in emergency situations.
• Emergency First Aid
• HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development considered an asset.
• Training or demonstratable basic skill in operating a variety of current computer applications including Microsoft Office software and Excel spreadsheets.
• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License.
