The Municipality of the District of West Hants is planning for the replacement of the water main and rehabilitation of the street and sidewalks on Foundry Road and Cottage Street.
The scope of work includes the following plan: 1. Cold plane the existing roadway surface, including removal of the existing rail crossing on Foundry Road; 2. Excavate and remove existing curb and sidewalks from both sides of the street; 3. Excavate and replace existing 4” water line with new 6” water main; 4. Place base gravels and install new concrete curb and gutters along both sides of Foundry Road and along one side of Cottage Street; 5. Place base gravels and install new 1.5-meter wide concrete sidewalk along the west and north side of both streets; 6. Fine grade roadway with existing material; 7. Reinstate driveway aprons on the back side of the curb and asphalt at the face of the new curb; 8. Tack coat and re-pave road surfaces with new asphalt; and 9. Reinstatement of lawns along the street. Work required to reinstate or replace the asphalt and expand the parking area at Foundry Field is planned for a future project. The parking area will be reinstated and compacted with gravel only, as part of this water main rehabilitation.
This project is to be performed by West Hants Public Works staff, in cooperation with Town of Windsor Public Works staff. Various trade contractors will be utilized as required.
Schedule: Construction is scheduled to begin on August 12 and anticipated to be completed before September 30. Hours of work will generally be weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. While construction is ongoing, the work area will be closed on Foundry Road and will be limited to “local traffic only” on Cottage Street. This will require detours, causing some minor delays. It is anticipated that full traffic control personnel will not be utilized for the project, however road barriers will be monitored during work hours.
